Oak Meadow Bed & Breakfast is located three miles east of Athens at Ranch Road and Flat Creek Road. We're on the way to Lake Athens, home of the
Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center, a state-of-the-art replica of Texas
freshwater estuaries and genetics research center for black bass. The
world's largest black bass (20 pounds and growing!) is housed in a twelve
million gallon display tank in the auditorium with dive shows daily (Tuesday
thru Sunday).
Athens, an East Texas community of 12,000, is located 70 miles southeast of
Dallas and 35 miles southwest of Tyler, at the crossing of Highways 175 and
31. Henderson County consists of rolling hills and beautiful lakes with
some of the nation's best black bass fishing. It is the home of the Old Fiddler's Contest & Reunion the last weekend in May. Thirty miles to the north on Highway 19 is Canton, home of First Monday Trades Day. Trading begins every Thursday preceding the first Monday of every month and extends through Sunday. It is the largest regularly scheduled trades day in the nation. (We have a minimum two-night stay for Trades Day weekend.)
Athens, Texas and the surrounding area offer a host of sites, events, and activities for all ages and interests. To view photos and get detailed information about each one, click this website: www.athenstx.org
