| About Texarkana |
Texarkana was home to presidential candidate Ross Perot until he graduated from the Naval Academy and went to Dallas to make his fortune. His boyhood home is near Mansion on Main. Only thirty miles away is Hope, the birthplace of Bill Clinton. Within walking distance are the Perot Theater (restored by Ross Perot), Ace of Clubs House (a historic tour home), and Museums, with special honors for Scott Joplin, the creator of "ragtime music".
Texarkana...Twice as Nice
Texarkana is indeed a unique city; in fact, it is two cities - one in Arkansas and one in Texas, each governed by separate City Councils. The State Line functions as the boundary street and principal thoroughfare - with the Post Office, State and Federal Court Buildings in the middle of the street, serving both cities. In the court buildings, a prisoner or a judge is legally in either state, an extraordianary example of practical government cooperation. Two cities in two states working together as one spawns a unique hospitality that is "twice as nice".
