Introduction

The tradition of Magnolia House began in 1923, when the stately home was designed and built for the Stein family. Edward Stein was the architect, head of the household and designer of the Gillespie County Courthouse, located in downtown Fredericksburg. Each piece of lumber was personally selected by Mr. Stein, making Magnolia House one of the most carefully constructed houses in this historic area. Today, Magnolia House has been designated by the Texas Historical Commission for The Recorded Texas Historic Landmark.

Restored in 1991, every element of Magnolia House is in keeping with the grand interior and comfortable family lifestyle of the original living quarters.

  • A custom-designed stone patio with fish pond and waterfall invites guests outdoors.
  • Wicker furniture graces the porches.
  • Magnolia House's inviting kitchen has the original cabinets inset with glass and a beautiful antique light fixture.
  • Antique built-in iceboxes with wooden doors are also featured.

Thoughtful amenities such as fresh flowers, home-brewed coffee, and complimentary beverages make Magnolia House a luxurious retreat. Each room has a clock radio with CD player and a color television with DVD player and premium cable channels. Magnolia House Bed and Breakfast soaps, shampoos, hair dryers, iron, ironing board and luxurious spa robes are thoughtfully provided. Wireless, hi-speed Internet access is also available.

Every morning, guests meet in the dining room to enjoy a two course gourmet breakfast, starting with fresh fruit, homemade muffins and juice. The breakfast changes every day, including a combination of waffles, French toast or crêpes, bacon, sausage, and an egg entree. Everything is prepared from scratch and served on antique china and silver.

  • The Magnolia House staff will be happy to suggest restaurants, special shopping areas, and local events to make your Fredericksburg stay extra special.

  • Admiral Nimitz Museum is on Main Street and features exhibits on World War II Pacific battles and restored rooms of the historic Nimitz Hotel.

  • LBJ State & National Park is 16 miles east of Fredericksburg. Guided bus tours of the LBJ Ranchlands include LBJ’s birthplace and the Johnson Family cemetery.

  • Enchanted Rock is the second largest granite structure in North America. The nearby park includes miles of scenic hiking trails and many lovely picnic areas.

  • Local Vineyards are a wonderful excursion, offering wine tasting, cellar tours and a chance to buy fine Hill Country wines.

You may purchase a gift certificate for any number of weekday nights (Sunday through Thursday nights), or at least two weekend nights for any suite or room. We have a two night minimum stay on weekends, but not on weekdays. The Perfect Gift for Weddings, Anniversaries, Birthdays, Graduation, Accomplishment, Retirement, Appreciation, etc. We can either send the gift certificate to you, or send the certificate directly to the lucky recipient!
