Previously serving as a private residence, then as a boarding house, the home was purchased in 1995 by four ladies committed to the traveler's enjoyment. The home has been lovingly restored and furnished with antiques and fine furniture to offer a blend of Victorian and traditional elegance.

The Garden Inn is, architecturally, one of the most singular in the East End Historical District (according to Galveston Architecture Guidebook, 1996). The 1887 H.S. Mather home was originally identified as a High Victorian Chalet. Now, it is an elegant bed and breakfast inn.
