Bastrop is the county seat of Bastrop County, Texas. A fire in 1862 destroyed most of downtown Bastrop's commercial buildings and the county courthouse. Thus, most current downtown structures post date the Civil War. Bastrop has an Annual Holiday Homes Tour, where seven of Bastrop's historic structures, from a Civil War-era cottage to a Queen Anne confection, will open their doors to the public in a self-guided tour, sponsored by the Bastrop County Historical Society. In Bastrop, Fisherman's Park provides public access to the Colorado River and a place for the kids to play. Another place to go is the Loblollies, which are are just a few minutes from downtown in Bastrop State Park, which has one of three area golf courses. Bastrop has fine restaurants like Anita's Mexican Restaurant, known for its fine mexican cuisine. Cedar's grill was voted the #1 Italian Restaurant in Bastrop County for 2008.
