Fort Martin Scott - 1606 East Main Street - 830-997-9895 - Open Tuesday - Saturday, 10 AM - 5 PM, this frontier Army post was one of Texas' first forts and saw active duty from 1848 - 1853.
Old Tunnel Wildlife Management Area (Bat Tunnel) - 12 miles east on the Old San Antonio Highway - 830-644-2478 - Open nightly June through October. View a colony of Mexican free-tail bats as they fly out for their nightly hunt. Special programs on Tuesday and Saturday.
Cross Mountain - On a small peak north of town off FM965, settlers found the remnants of a wooden cross believed to have been left there by Spanish missionaries. Residents have kept crosses on the mountain overlooking Fredericksburg since 1849 beginning with John Christian Durst. Cross Mountain which stands 1,951 feet above sea level and offers a panoramic view of town.
