Introduction
Maplehurst Inn Bed & Breakfast
Built in 1918 as a single family home along the Tennessee River and adjacent to what is known now as
the University of Tennessee. The Middletons sold their home in 1954 to a local businessman who
converted it to an apartment building, housing primarily engineering students due to the close proximity
to Eastbrook Hall. The home was converted to a European style inn for the 1982 World’s Fair in
Knoxville and has operated since as a unique downtown inn.
All 15 guests rooms and suites were carefully set-up with private bathrooms, most feature sunken
mirrored tubs, Jacuzzis or roman marble tubs. Keeping the guests comfort as a top concern and
answering to today’s travelers, most rooms have King size beds and some with two double beds.
All rooms are furnished with antiques and reproductions that were found ordinarily in a European
inn during the yesteryears.
Practicality and functionality were applied to all our renovation and restoration done in 1996 by adding telephones with data ports, satellite televisions, and individual climate control to each room, as well as desks and work areas for the business travelers. These
modern amenities are usually hidden behind the relaxing English decor, but can easily be found
when needed.
At check in, enjoy a glass of iced tea in the summer time or hot apple cider and cookies in the winter.
The complimentary evening cocktail reception hosted by the Innkeeper features locally brewed and
bottled beers and a variety of other beverages, followed by dinner recommendations to the best local
restaurants which are close at hand and many within walking distance.

Location: The inn is located just one block southeast of the University of Tennessee and west of the downtown business district, the convention center, the UT conference center, and the World’s Fair Park. It is
only 1/2 mile from the Interstate on/off ramps making it a wonderful alternative for the transient
business travelers and Knoxville visitors who appreciate the central location, the unmatched
hospitality, and the comfort of this unique inn.
If you are familiar with Knoxville, go south on Henley Street as if you were going to Chapman Hwy
and Baptist hospital. However, before you drive over the bridge; Hill avenue will be on your right,
and the Maplehurst Inn will be the first building on your left.
