History of Lairdland Farm
|
|
Erected on a 5,000 acre tract in 1832 and enlarged in 1857, by
Robert H. Laird, the plantation became known as "Laird-lands".
During the Civil War, there was much activity near the Laird house. One
wounded Confederate soldier who was the recipient of the hospitality
and loving care of the Laird family was James Knox Blackburn who fell
in love with and married their daughter, Mackie. The 1867 date on the middle
gable of the house commemorates the event.
