Introduction
Come and stay in a beautiful historic Victorian home in Jonesborough, Tennessee. Within walking distance of downtown Jonesborough and the International Storytelling Center (ISC), Rose Hill is located on seven green acres with two creeks and a pond. Each Tuesday through Saturday afternoon you can enjoy world-famous storytellers perform at the ISC.
Dr. Laurie Moore, a chiropractic physician, and her family welcome you to their home. She enjoys offering a delectable selection of delicious breakfast foods, balanced with the ingredients necessary for optimal health.
Rose Hill also has stories to tell. In 1886, James Dossier built this Victorian home for his daughter - to make sure she didn't leave Jonesborough. The second family to live in the home reared a son, Rhea Wells who later became a writer of children's books. In his book, The American Farm, Wells describes his childhood in this house and growing up in Jonesborough. Many people have lived in Rose Hill - each with their own story, and each making a unique contribution to the history of the home. You will soon realize that everyone has a story at Rose Hill and in Jonesborough.
Common Spaces to Enjoy at Rose Hill
In the Music Parlor, you can play a Victorian Square Piano built around 1885 that is rumored to have served as an operating table during the Civil War. You may experiment with a Dulcimer, play an Irish pipe, or simply relax to beautiful CDs.
The library is a unique space filled with books and comfortable places to read. Bring your laptop, if you must, as Internet is available with wireless access. In the Library, there are books and resources related to storytelling, along with children's books that are available for purchase. It is hard to believe that the Library was once the servants' quarters at an earlier time in this historic home. This space includes a pull out couch, if additional sleeping space is needed during your visit.
There is no better place to share family stories than around the breakfast table in the Dining Room. At Rose Hill, you can enjoy a delicious breakfast, including baked egg casserole, fresh fruit, and delicious berry and nut muffins. The beautiful stained glass windows in the dining room filter the morning light, as it embraces the table, while stories are shared about the way things were long ago.
Rose Hill is listed on the historic register and located at 703 West Main Street in Jonesborough, Tennessee, the oldest town in Tennessee. Dr. Laurie Moore, a chiropractic physician, and her family welcome you to their home. She enjoys offering a delectable selection of delicious breakfast foods, balanced with the ingredients necessary for optimal health.
