Introduction
Built in the early 1800's as a log cabin, The Home Place has
been owned by Priscilla Rogers' family since then.
Many generations have left their mark on the home by renovating it to
meet their needs. Today it is a cozy yet spacious home in a very private
setting in Mooresburg, Tennessee.
Mooresburg is located 12 miles southwest of historic Rogersville, Tennessee,
50 miles northeast of Knoxville and an hour's drive north of the Great
Smoky Mountains and Pigeon Forge.
History of Mooresburg, Rogersville and The Home Place
Major Hugh G. Moore, my great-great-great
grandfather, settled this small community in 1769. His granddaughter,
"Mammy" Moore Williams (my great-grandmother), raised her children
in this house, and in the late 1800's, opened her home to "drummers,"
or traveling salesmen, to supplement the family income.
Another of my ancestors, Joseph Rogers, founded nearby Rogersville, the
second-oldest town in Tennessee. He opened a tavern there in the late
1700s and hosted such dignitaries as Andrew Jackson.
At The Home Place, you will enjoy a homey
and relaxed atmosphere. Many heirlooms
decorate the bedrooms,
which are named for individuals who have occupied them in the past.
During the renovation of the house, the original dining room and kitchen
were combined to make the Family Room. The doorway
between this room and the living room was widened to reveal the original
log structure of the home.
Family Room
A small gift shop is located in the Family Room.
The shop has items such as Home Place private label soaps and candles made by a local artist from natural ingredients (These soaps and candles were created originally for the Mt. Vernon gift shop); Home Place Buttermilk Pottery such as teapots, mugs, and spoon ladles; jams and jellies; Home Place magnets and mousepads; tee shirts and sweat shirts, local history books and other locally produced books, and other items representative of the area. The Home Place cookbook is almost ready for distribution.
The Home Place is a non-smoking facility.
Telephones for guests are in each room and hallway. TV's with cable and VCR's are in each room. A fax machine is available on the premises. A guest refrigerator is available, stocked with soft drinks and can be used to store guests' items. We also have Wireless Internet available.
We can host your special event in our the living room, or the Gazebo.
We are set up for weddings, receptions, showers, reunions, church groups, business meetings, just to name a few examples. Wedding parties are welcome. The Home Place has special rates for honeymooners. The house and grounds are available
for weddings of up to 50 people in winter and up to 100 in the summer. The Home Place is also available for other wedding events such as Bridal showers and receptions.
The Home Place B&B has initiated a new venture this year. We have started a local community agency and even gotten a faith in action grant through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to help us get the program off the ground. Mooresburg Community Association, Inc. is a non profit agency which serves older and disabled persons in Mooresburg. Although relatively new, the program has already served many people in lots of different ways such as providing a hot meal daily, repairing a wall for someone’s house, building a driveway, providing winter coats and food for those in need, providing medical equipment such as wheelchairs, helping those with visual impairments and many other services. To find out more about what we are doing or how you can help, visit our web site at www.Mooresburg.com.
We hope you enjoy your visit to the The Home Place. Please call soon to make your reservations.
The Home Place is permitted by the Health Department.
