Introduction
A 225 Year-Old Tradition of Hospitality
Built in 1782 at the foot of the Indian Ridge by frontiersman and tavern-keeper John Chisholm, The Inn at the Green Tree has served as a gathering place for centuries, offering hospitality to travelers in times both modern and old. Its bold limestone spring first drew pre-Colombian people and, much later, Cherokee Indian hunting parties and stagecoach travelers who stopped to water their horses and camp for the night.
Known as the Bowling Green to local citizenry, this historic home has evolved from log cabin and federal-style plantation home-from stage coach inn and late-20th century bed and breakfast-to a welcome escape from the world at-large. For now, after complete restoration, The Inn At the Green Tree is ready once again to welcome visitors.
Located less than a mile from the historic town center of Jonesborough, Tennessee, The Inn At the Green Tree features large, luxuriously appointed guest suites and baths in a private wing of the house with a separate parlor, well-stocked gourmet kitchen for snacks, dining area, plus patio and garden - all for the exclusive use of guests. Continental breakfast available at your convenience, cable television and wireless internet.
All accommodations offer climate control, private baths, ample seating, desks for writing or laptops, cable TV, Internet, and large closets for stowing gear. Special arrangements can be made for mountain biking tours, hiking in the Appalachians, water rafting, and other scenic excursions.
Local golf courses are ranked among the top ten nationally. The historic district of Jonesborough, the first town established outside of the original 13 colonies, offers fine dining and antiquing, gourmet food, a chocolatier, plus many clothing and gift boutiques. Other activities include live music on the square, art and story festivals, a 4th of July fireworks display to match any other, and wonderful seasonal activities at all holidays.
We are approximately one hour from many regional destinations including Asheville North Carolina, the Biltmore Hotel, wineries, the Blue Ridge Parkway and Mountains, the Cherokee National Forest, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, the Museum of the Appalachians, Knoxville, northwest Virginia, and more.
