Championship Golf
Ten minutes away from Evins Mill is RiverWatch Golf Course, Tennessee’s first championship course designed by Peter Jacobsen. With fairways and greens overlooking Center Hill Lake itself, each scenic hole on this 6,900 yard, par 72 course transforms natural landscapes into challenging tests of ability for players of all levels.
Center Hill Lake
Evins Mill is minutes away from Center Hill Lake, Middle Tennessee’s premier recreational lake, where guests may boat, fish, swim, and water ski. Center Hill Lake is a 64 mile long reservoir consisting of 415 miles of shoreline, and 18,200 acres of deep, pure water for many species of fish. Nearly all of the shoreline is undeveloped and natural. Around the lake are numerous marinas and recreation areas.
Caney Fork River
At the head of Center Hill Lake is the Caney Fork River, great for canoe trips and trout fishing.
Waterfalls
Tennessee’s Highland Rim is known for its stream system and breathtaking waterfalls. In addition to Carmac Falls at Evins Mill, Burgess Falls and Fall Creek Falls are also worth a visit.
Joe L. Evins Appalachian Center for Crafts
The Joe L. Evins Appalachian Center for Crafts is a nationally renowned facility dedicated to expanding the influence of craft on contemporary art, while preserving craft traditions. The Center has an art gallery as well as a gift store that features fiber, wood, metal, and glass works. From the intersection of U.S. 70 and State Route 56, follow State Route 56 north 8 miles. The Craft Center is on the right immediately before crossing Hurricane Bridge.
Nurseries & Shopping
If Dekalb County is home to Middle Tennessee’s premier recreational lake, it’s also home to one of the region’s most well-known industries – nurseries. And Smithville has a number of fine ones, including Center Hill Nursery (615-597-1888), Cumberland Nursery (615-597-4585), Bert Driver Nursery (615-597-9560), and Knowles & Sons Nursery (615-597-4556).
In addition to nurseries, Smithville is also home to a number quaint and home-grown antique and retail stores that are minutes away from Evins Mill.
Wineries
Guests interested in wine tasting may want to take a longer excursion to the wineries of Crossville, a sixty minute drive from Evins Mill. Especially for wine afficionados and guests staying at Evins Mill for more than one night, it’s a wonderful diversion. Many wineries offer free tours of their facilities, where you can see grapes being crushed and wine being bottled, as well as shops for souvenirs and gifts. We recommend Stonehaus – both the wine and the tour!
Cumberland Caverns
Cumberland Caverns is Tennessee's largest cave and a U.S. National Landmark. It displays some of the largest cave rooms and some of the most spectacular cave formations in Eastern America, including an historic 1812 saltpeter mine, pools and waterfalls. "God of the Mountain," an original underground pageant of light and sound, is shown on all tours, which are conducted every day from May through October and by group reservations at other times.
