| Introduction |

The newly opened Dogwood Manor just off the Park Road in Van Buren County evokes a sense of charming calm to everyone that passes it. Dogwood Manor is located just past the North side entrance to Fall Creek Falls State Park, just before Highway 30. On July 4, 2006 the newly built Dogwood Manor opened. Owners, B.J. and Janice Starnes had nothing more than a vision and a drawing on a piece of paper when they began building this house over a year ago. Dogwood Manor hosts four suites, 2 small and 2 large, each with a living room area and bedroom. Each suite is fully designed with a queen bed, TV, microwave, sofa, refrigerator, ceramic tile, and French doors opening onto the large front porch. Each suite can be rented separately or can be unlocked so all four suites can be accessed by a large group. Each suite is decorated in a classic style complete with hand-sewn comforters. |

When they first started building the home, the Starnes were not planning on it being a Bed and Breakfast. However, they had many people stop in and ask if they could rent a room so they decided to make their home into a Bed and Breakfast. B.J. and Janice live upstairs with their dog Lucy. Upstairs enjoy a music room complete with a jukebox from Atlanta that is filled with Elvis music and a pool table that B.J. played on as a child. Lucy enjoys their elevator the most. It makes her journey between levels much easier. |

Mr. Starnes stated, "We want to be a part of the community." This is why he hopes to add on a gazebo where they can host outside concerts. They also own and operate the Top of the Porch at Dogwood Manor designed to offer the citizens of Van Buren County and the surrounding area a somewhat upscale dining alternative. "We welcome people to stop in and check us out," they commented. It is a clean, beautifully decorated Bed and Breakfast, which received a rare score of 100 from the Health Department. If you would like to stop in and check it out, owners B.J. and Janice Starnes will gladly show you around. Breakfast at Dogwood Manor promises to be a treat. It will include everything from sausage and bacon, to eggs and pancakes, along with fruit, juice, and coffee. Breakfast is served out on top balcony. Enjoy the morning breeze, with your coffee and paper. |
