Tennessee boasts a rich culture and history. Not only did bluegrass music originate in Bristol, a city in the northeastern part of the state, but the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville is the longest continually running live radio program in the world, broadcasting every weekend since 1925. During the Civil War, more battles were fought in Tennessee than any other state, save Virginia. In fact, the only monument in the United States honoring both the Union and Confederate armies is located in Greenville at the Green County Courthouse. Tennessee is also home of the Memphis Rock n' Soul Museum and the Hunter Museum of Art. Outdoor recreation abounds in the Great Smoky Mountains and along the famous Appalachian Trail. You can tour America's largest underground lake, the Lost Sea in Craighead Cavers, an unforgettable experience.
