Introduction

The Grove, the Inn on Harlee - Marion, South Carolina
A Very Special Place

Just a few minutes from I-95, The Grove, the Inn on Harlee is a perfect midway point between the Northeast and Florida.

When W.J. Montgomery built his family mansion in 1893, it was to be a special place. Brick masons and woodworkers crafted his 7,000 sq.ft. three story manor into one of the foremost examples of Eastlake Victorian architecture on the East Coast, known for its dramatic 12 ft. interior wood archways and elaborate woodwork.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, The Grove, the Inn on Harlee features parlors with the richness and design of a day gone by. Yet, you can still curl up with a good book on an overstuffed couch in front of a fireplace in our cozy family room. Or sip tea in the turn-of-the-century Victorian tradition on wrap-around porches.

Room to Roam

Historically known as "The Grove" because of its stately trees, The Grove, the Inn on Harlee offers five acres to wander and explore. Our gardens feature colors and scents to enjoy year-round. Stroll through our woods and relax among towering oaks, beautiful magnolias, flowering crepe myrtles, fragrant olives, resplendent camellias, dogwoods, redbuds and azaleas.

Grounds-azaleas

Take a leisurely two block stroll under Spanish moss to Marion's excellent antique shops, cafes, museum and beautiful city parks. Or, experience live big name shows under the stars at nearby Carolina Amphitheater. Indulge your sweet tooth at Russell Stover Candies' Factory Outlet Store.

Not Too Close to the Action

A short drive to Myrtle Beach, you'll be just under an hour away from the fun and excitement of the ocean, delicious Calabash and Murrell's Inlet style seafood, scores of excellent golf courses, hundreds of outlet stores, live star-studded shows and dinner theaters. Close to the beach, yet without being caught up in the pace and the noise.

Those who want something different can experience the near by antique auctions or hold on for the fast-paced races at Darlington International Speedway.

History abounds in nearby Charleston, Britton's Neck and Camden. In fact, this is the area where Francis Marion, the Revolutionary War's "Swamp Fox," defeated the British. Over the years, the town of Marion has secured its own fame as eastern Carolina's "most beautiful city," and "the pretty little town on the way to the beach."
