North Augusta is on the banks of the Savannah River, which forms the Georgia-South Carolina border. This family-oriented community offers all the advantages of the surrounding metropolitan areas. Present opportunities include Riverview Park, which provides access to the Greenway hiking/biking trail, the Hippodrome, a multipurpose equine facility, and the River Golf Club. The Riverview Park Activities Center hosts the annual Nike Peach Jam high school basketball tournament which showcases 24 of the top AAU teams throughout the nation. College scouts come from across the country to observe potential recruits every July. The event, similar to the women's Nike Nationals tournament, brings about $1 million to the city each year.

The Hippodrome plays host to some of the largest equestrian events in the Southeast such as the Augusta Cutting Futurity, the annual World Champion National Barrel Horse Race, including the Thanksgiving Day and New Year's Day Barrel Race, and the Aiken Triple Crown, which is held three consecutive weekends in March.

The River Club Golf Course, designed by acclaimed golf course architect Jim Fazio, provides golfers with a memorable playing experience in a setting you won't find anywhere else. River Club has been named one of the top five new affordable golf courses in America by Golf Digest and is a 2002 U.S. Open qualifying site.

The Augusta Rowing Club annually hosts the Head of the South Regatta which brings competitors and coaches from all over the country to compete on the Savannah River. See boat drag races on the Savannah River at the Augusta Southern Nationals where boats reach speeds of up to 245 m.p.h.
