Wine and Food Events
We invite you to enjoy a unique Adele Turner Inn experience. Every afternoon, in addition to our acclaimed tea service, we feature a wine and food pairing event unlike any other in Newport. Equal parts wine bar, wine club, tasting dinner and social soiree, you will taste wines from our cellar, perfectly paired with artisan cheeses and other specially prepared and matched gourmet goodies, in the relaxed luxury of the Inn. Whether you're new to wine or a wine enthusiast, our private wine and food events are both entertaining and enlightening. Cheers!
What To Expect - Our daily wine event is served up between 5 - 6 pm in the parlor, or weather permitting, outside on the veranda and outdoor tables. All wine and food events are complimentary and for guests only. Our seasonal menu changes daily and generally features 3 or 4 wines from our cellar. Hosted by one of our innkeeper-sommeliers, the tastings are designed to be easy-going and interactive, and a fun way to discover there is more to wine and food pairing than just white goes with fish and red with meat.
What We're Tasting - While what we're pouring may vary widely, one regular feature is our regional wines. That's right, there is a wine country in Rhode Island. A fairly impressive one at that. And yes, there are some pretty interesting wines being produced.
Regional Wine Focus - Several of the wines have been spotlighted by the national wine press, as hot up-and-coming wines. We will taste the best from Sakonnet Vineyards, Greenvale Vineyards, Newport Vineyards and Westport Rivers Vineyard. Regional stand outs include Vidal Blanc, a white wine often described as New England's Pinot Grigio, and Cabernet Franc, the well known Bordeaux blending grape, that here makes a nice red on its own. From chardonnay to gewurztraminer to sparkling and dessert wines, you will discover a number of wines that you cannot easily taste anywhere else.
Southeastern New England Wine Growing Appellation - If you're interested in further exploring the nearby wineries -- which we highly recommend -- we're happy to get you pointed in the right direction. The Newport region is in the heart of the Southeastern New England Wine zone. And there is a coastal wine trail that winds from here to Massachusetts with several interesting stops along the way. All the vineyards offer tastings and tours.
