Breakfast and Afternoon Tea
We feature two epicurean delights each day at Abigail. In the morning, our multi-course, gourmet breakfast, and in the afternoon, our internationally acclaimed tea service -- named one of the 20 best afternoon teas in America (see below). Both are complimentary, available to guests only.
BREAKFAST - Pampered and Indulged in, as it ought to be, in bed. Enjoy a refined seasonal menu with five entreé choices, in addition to a breakfast buffet of fresh fruit, cereals, yogurt, granola, fresh baked muffins and breads. House specialties include Eggs Newport, our seaside gastronomic twist on breakfast classic Eggs Benedict, with crab cakes replacing the Canadian bacon and English muffin; decadent banana nut French Toast; and on the lighter side, fresh berry crepes. All guest favorites. Although we are known for our tea, we proudly serve Peet's Coffee, which we believe to be the finest, connoisseur coffee blends available. We are the only hotel or Inn chosen by Pete's in Rhode Island to offer their coffees.
In addition to breakfast-in-bed, your morning meal can also be enjoyed in the Tea For Two room, The James Finch Pub, our Victorian Parlor, or at outdoor garden tables when the weather is nice. A variety of newspapers is available each morning in the parlor. Breakfast is served 8 - 10 am.
AFTERNOON TEA - Critics have favorably compared our afternoon high tea with the St. Regis, Waldorf-Astoria and Fairmont Empress Hotels, for its grandness but you will experience an intimacy here that can't be duplicated. Add to that the connoissuer collection of 45 estate teas we offer, and you will enjoy an afternoon tea not soon forgotten.
Silver and porcelain tiers hold an array of sweets and savories that change daily. Tea sandwiches might include salmon and capers, egg and cavier, pesto with tomato and mozzarella, cucumber and radish, cranberry and pear chutney, or crab with lemon zest. Sweets include artisan chocolates, cookies, brownies, pies, fruit tarts and cakes. Plus, fresh scones with Devonshire Cream, handmade English marmalades and fruit butter curds, are always featured.
The high tea food selection is complimented with teas served both English and Asian styles. In addition to our own acclaimed Legendary Newport Tea blend, exotic green, white, and oolong teas, along with botanical blends are tasted daily.
Afternoon Tea is served from 4:30 - 5:30 pm in the parlor. You are invited to reserve The Tea For Two Room (a cozy alternative for one couple), or retreat to the comfort of your state room as well. Guests may also reserve a private "anytime" tea, which includes choice of tea, with scones and Devonshire Cream.
During warmer months, we also serve iced teas, and guests are invited to relax at the outdoor garden tables. We now make available for sale, our Newport Tea, marmalades and fruit butters, all distinctively designed with label artwork from legendary Newport artist Beatrice Turner.
