English Toffee Bars

Delectable and easy to make. These don't stay around very long.

Directions

 

1 C packed brown sugar

1 C softened butter or margarine

1 egg yolk

1 tsp vanilla

2 C all-purpose flour

1/4 tsp salt

1 bar chocolate candy

1/2 C chopped nuts

 

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix brown sugar, butter, egg yolk and vanilla. Stir in flour and salt. Press into a greased oblong pan 13x9x2".

 

Bake until very light brown, 25-30 minutes (crust will be soft).

Remove pan from oven; immediately place separated pieces of chocolate candy on crust. Let stand until soft; spread evenly. Sprinkle with nuts. Cut into bars about 2x 1 1/2 inches while warm.
