Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup lard
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon anise seed
  • 3 Tablespoons sherry
  • 1/4 cup sugar

Directions

Cream lard and 1/2 c sugar till quite creamy. Add egg and beat till very fluffy. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt and add to creamed mixture and combine. Stir in sherry and anise seed. Roll dough out onto floured board about 1/4 inch thick and cut into shapes with cookie cutter. Combine 1/4 cup sugar and 1 Tablespoon cinnamon and sprinkle on top of each cookie. Bake in a pre- heated oven at 350 for 15 -20 minutes or until light brown. Makes 4 dozen small cookies.
