Direct from Bath, England to Staunton!
Sift flour and salt into a warm bowl
Melt butter and add milk
Cream yeast with sugar
Add to milk mix
Beat eggs and stir in
Mix to smooth dough
Cover bowl and let stand in warm place to rise for 45-60 mins.
Turn dough onto floured board and add in sultanas (or raisins or currants) and knead lightly.
Grease 2 6 inch cake tins or saved metal pie plates and leave for 15-30 mins to allow dough to rise again.
As it is rising heat oven to 400.
Bake for 20 mins or until done.
Sultanas are golden raisins and the eggs give the bread a lovely yellow hue so are really nicer to use than regular raisins. In Bath they make these buns with sugar lumps mixed in too!
The brown sugar is sold in the UK as granules for coffee. Substitute demerera sugar which specialty food stores carry.
