Baked Apples in Cider/Cinnamon Sauce

From THE INN AT MALLARD COVE

This is a good way to begin a three-course meal: Baked Washington apples in a reduction of cider and cinnamon, with star anise added for flavor.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Apple Cider
  • 6 Star Anise Pods
  • 2 Cinnamon Sticks
  • 4 Whole Cloves
  • 1/4 tsp. Ground Allspice
  • 3 Apples; cored and diced (Pink Lady, Fuji, Cameo and Braeburn work best)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees

  2. Place all the ingredients in a 9 inch glass pie pan.

  3. Bake for 25 minutes.

  4. Remove from oven and place anise pods, cinnamon sticks, cloves and liquid into a saucepan.

  5. Place saucepan over high heat and boil until sauce is reduced by 50 percent.

  6. Divide cooked apples equally between six serving dishes.

  7. Pour the sauce over the apples.

  8. Garnish with star anise.
