Our B&B, the Historic Kuebler Waldrip Haus B&B is fortunate to have a wonderful historic local bakery called Naegelin's Bakery. Naegelin's Bakery is the longest continuously running bakery in the State of Texas, and the bakery is also well known for their homemade sweets and apple strudel. If you come to visit New Braunfels, make Naegelin's Bakery a must to visit. I suggest to you to find a reliable source for bread (fresh or day-old bread works well and either sliced or unsliced). Take the bread and freeze it for later use. I buy the fresh bread (at regular price) and I buy the day-old bread which is half price of the regular fresh bread. I love supporting local New Braunfels businesses.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of bread (fresh or day old)
  • 1/2 lb. of melted butter

Directions

TOOLS - that you will need are a hot pan for the stove top or a countertop grill, a fork to turn the bread, and a pastry brush to add the butter.

INSTRUCTIONS: Take the loaf of bread and place in the refrigerator if it is frozen. Melt the butter in the microwave and set to the side. Slice the bread to the thickness desired, and cut the slices in half for easy serving and eating. Place or plug in the pan to let it get hot, then place the sliced bread in the hot pan. Butter one side of the bread and turn the bread over. After turning the bread, butter the second side of the bread. Serve hot with extra butter, jelly and/or honey. This bread is a great second bread to serve with a dish that is sweet. It gives the guest something that is "not sweet" as a second choice. Enjoy!
