Grand Anne Homemade Biscuits
From THE GRAND ANNE BED & BREAKFASTCooking Time:
10 to 15 minutesIngredients
- 2 cups flour, sifted
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon cream of tartar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar (3 tablespoons if using batter for shortcake with fresh strawberries)
- ½ cup butter, softened
- 1 egg
- 2/3 cup heavy cream
Directions
Sift dry ingredients together. Then, blend with butter to corn meal consistency. Add milk slowly, then egg. Stir well, then place on floured board and knead five times, then press to ½ inch thickness. Cut into squares or cut out round biscuits and place on baking sheet. Bake 10-15 minutes in a hot oven, 425 degrees. Do not over bake. Bake to a golden brown color and serve with strawberries and cream, sausage and gravy, or just eat with butter and honey.
