Cream Cheese Pound Cake
From THE GERMAN HOUSE BED & BREAKFAST1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/4 teaspoon mace (optional)
1 stick butter, softened
1 1/2 cup sugar
4 large eggs
1 8-ounce package cream cheese
3 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
Preheat oven to 325°. Grease and flour a 9" x 5" loaf pan (I use two smaller ones). Sift flour, mace, cream of tartar and set aside.
Using mixer cream butter and sugar till fluffy. Add eggs to mixture; gradually add flour mixture by thirds; also cream cheese. Continue until all has been added. Add vanilla/almond extracts and mix well. Pour into either 1 or 2 pans. Bake 1 1/2 hours until loaf is golden brown.
Note: I put 3 tablespoons of Hersheys cocoa in a small amount of batter and "marble" into one of the loaves. Also use poppy seeds sometimes for another variety.
