Introduction
"The notion that living on a farm could be a vacation is not new, but it's
a concept whose time has arrived. Have children ever been less aware of
rural life". The Baltimore Sun
May 19, 2002
It’s the 21st century and Grandma no longer lives on the family farm. We
invite you to stay with us at our family farm and make some
down-on-the-farm memories.
Children of all ages will enjoy helping Farmer Dale with morning chores.
They will become acquainted with goats, rabbits, ducks, chickens, geese,
sheep and cattle. Weatherbury is a working farm. Each day features new
experiences -- from hay making to sheep shearing.
Weatherbury Farm Vacation is the perfect escape from every day
pressures -- a quiet place removed from the cares of the workaday world
where meadows and gardens, fields and valleys combine to create a perfect
setting of tranquil relaxation. Here the gentle amenities of life are
still observed.
Activities on the Farm and Nearby
Weatherbury Farm is set in an area of natural beauty to offer a
stopping-off place for exploring the many attractions of the area.
Opportunities for bicycling, boating, fishing, hiking, and golf abound.
Our on-the-farm blacksmith shop, auctions, antiquing and flea markets are
among the many choices of entertaining year round activities. Starlake
Amphitheater and Brooke Hills Playhouse offer a variety of summer
entertainment.
Also close by is Meadowcroft, a 19th century outdoor village museum which
includes one of the oldest archaeological sites in North America, and the
Pennsylvania Trolley Museum. Pittsburgh, Washington PA and panhandle West
Virginia are within easy driving distance.
Country gardens surround the farmhouse providing the perfect setting for
relaxing in a hammock or playing croquet on the lawn. The gorgeous
sunsets and breathtakingly beautiful sunrises make a stay here truly a
peaceful and relaxing experience. At day's end, one can take in the dance
of the fireflies from the porch swing.
Guest rooms, located in a cluster of restored historic farm buildings,
are lovingly furnished with old fashioned charm.
Each of the two guest rooms and three suites has its own personality. Mother's Sewing Room, sponge painted in shades of blue, is tucked under the eaves of the Summer Kitchen. On the first floor, Sariah's Kitchen, with original beaded board paneling and walk-in fireplace, is decorated in shades of mauve.
The three suites are located in the Livery, a barn which was moved to the farm from nearby Washington PA. Each suite has a downstairs living room with original 2 inch oak planks, joists and beams and are heated by a gas burning fireplace. The upstairs bedroom has a cathedral ceiling, rising 18 feet. The floors are the original yellow pine flooring from the hayloft. The bedroom opens onto a deck over-looking the pasture. Bathrooms (also on the 2nd floor) have old fashioned clawfoot tub with a shower and pull-chain toilets.
