The year is 1875 and the "New Historical Atlas of Lancaster County Pennsylvania" has just been published. Among the pictures of the prosperous farms and businesses of booming Lancaster County is the "Residence of B. F. Hiestand, Near Marietta". This is Susquehanna Manor. (Click here for more history)

Foyer and Staircase As you drive up the lane through huge old trees and plantings, you feel the serenity that Benjamin Hiestand found here. As you enter the foyer, you will immediately appreciate the work of Mr. Hiestand's planing mill as you notice the parquet floors and the magnificent chestnut staircase. Upstairs at Susquehanna Manor, each of the four bedroom suites is named for the former mistresses of the Manor.

The elegant music room features huge floor-to-ceiling windows with the original silk drapes and a fireplace surrounded by beautiful white tiles, which were imported from Holland. The wood parquet floor, also a product of the Hiestand Planing Mill, has its own unique design.

Enjoy a cup of tea in the cozy library at Susquehanna Manor. The intense colors in this room draw your attention to the beautiful dark green tiled fireplace with its huge andirons. Come into the dining room, where you are enveloped in deep, rich wood tones. The paneling on the walls, the built-in china closet and even the coffered ceiling are of the finest mahogany.

Susquehanna Manor is within thirty minutes of Hershey, Harrisburg, and Lancaster and the Amish Country.
We can arrange tours of the area, with a guide or a map, and we'll even pack you a basket lunch if you like.
