Introduction
Welcome to Squire Smith Inn of Mercersburg and to our home. We are pleased to share with you the gracious way of living envisioned by the original owners, the Smiths', and recognized, today, as a historic National Trust treasure.
Known as “a neat and commodious house of a midling size…”, Squire Smith Inn was built in 1786, as a two-story, four bay, coursed stone dwelling. An extension of brick and stone was added to the Inn in 1910 by Christian F. Fendrick.
Squire Smith Inn offers four guest rooms with queen or king beds with three of the rooms having private baths. The Mercer and Presidents' Rooms, as well as the Smith and Fendrick Rooms, have adjoining private doors allowing them to be combined to form two-room suites.
Highlights of Squire Smith Inn include a Tiffany fan and sidelights at the entrance, along with many examples of leaded glass. The architectural features are a combination of Federal and Colonial Revival.
A full breakfast is served in our Fendrick Oak Dining Room promptly at 8:30 am. Innkeepers, Melanie & Ross Bates, happily look forward to sharing their home and the historic community with many visitors and friend.
