Introduction
Have you been looking for a special place to stay? A romantic getaway? Adventures in the outdoors? Or perhaps experiencing many interesting sights and scenes: tours, festivals, special events and great country atmosphere. All of this is available here at one of the most beautiful recreational areas of the country.
The Rockwood Trail House Bed & Breakfast is nestled in the heart of the scenic mountains of the Laurel Highlands, in Pennsylvania. The cozy, clean and relaxing atmosphere of our meticulously restored, century old Bed & Breakfast exudes a warmth that makes you feel immediately welcomed and at home when you enter.
The Great Room is so inviting you may want to linger here and enjoy the atmosphere while enjoying a cup of hot chocolate or iced tea. A large fireplace with a sitting area has many books and periodicals to read. A piano is available for the musically inclined. An Amish swing in the great room is relaxing as you enjoy the refreshments that await your arrival.
Our kitchen has a temperature controlled wine refrigerator and it is the place our famous country breakfasts are prepared, focusing on locally-made sausage, bacon, Somerset County maple syrup and the best pancakes around! The Sun Room is a very relaxing place. With its charming wicker furniture and extra touch of warmth it is the ideal alcove where you can retreat with a soothing refreshment.
The five guest rooms are decorated with lovely antiques and many conversation pieces. Each room offers a private bath for your convenience and a queen bed where you can rejuvenate during a good night's rest. The splendid beds have high quality mattresses and fine linens, which many guests comment upon. The walls throughout the house have extra sound proofing added for maximum privacy. Radiant heat in the floors ensures a cozy warm feeling during our snowy wintertime and each room's air conditioner can be adjusted to your preference during the summer. Ceiling fans supply a gentle breeze when needed. All rooms have deadbolts on the doors that are individually keyed. Hair dryers, alarm clocks and cosmetic items await you also.
You will find beautiful quilts adorning rockers and chairs everywhere. The many accouterments throughout the house will keep you exploring for hours. The majestic wooden casings of the doors, windows, the deep molding boards and finishing trim were made from red and white oak, wormy chestnut and butternut. All have a natural finish. The large wooden staircase is opened towards the fine chandler and the roominess of the center foyer. Lovely art is displayed in areas of the house. A black and chromed cook stove in the dining area sits next to one of the house's most unique features --- a 3-cornered chimney which is exposed throughout the 3 floors of the home. The hand-hewn beams in the house are from our family's farm.
The veranda is most relaxing and a good place to slow down and enjoy some peace and quiet.
It is surrounded by lovely flower gardens and majestic tress, which makes for a truly charming atmosphere.
Your stay at the Rockwood Trail House will be one of your most cherished memories.
