Introduction

High atop exclusive Packer Hill in the historic district of Jim Thorpe, stands an impressive edifice whose imposing facade could have been taken from a gothic novel. The Harry Packer Mansion was constructed in 1874 of local brick and stone and New England sandstone with cast iron trim. The many surfaces and lofty proportions of the mansion evoke a high Victorian grandeur. The Harry Packer Mansion - Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania

The Victorian village of Jim Thorpe in Northeastern Pennsylvania (two hours north of Philadelphia) is a scenic paradise nestled between three breathtaking mountains with the tumultuous Lehigh River running right through the center of town. An oasis of history perfectly preserved, the architecture of Jim Thorpe is purely Victorian. Throughout the historic district, mansion and church tours, museums, train rides, unique gift shops and restaurants are set among private and public buildings from each period of the second empire to Queen Anne. The attractions are many in Jim Thorpe, and the pace is slow, pleasant, and old-fashioned.

Today, a century after her construction, the Harry Packer Mansion is completely restored while maintaining original features and appointments of detailed Minton tiles, bronze and brass chandeliers, Tiffany windows, intricate wood carved mantles, and period antique furnishings.

A step inside the mansion is a step back in time. The accommodations in the Harry Packer Mansion and the adjacent carriage house are every bit as elegant as the accommodations befitting the grand ladies and gentlemen of yore, with all the creature comforts of the modern age.

Harry Packer Mansion is rated 4-stars by AAA!
