Introduction
Hopewell Hill Farm is the centerpiece of the Hopewell Historic District, which was listed on the National Registry as a community effort to preserve the rural historic character of the Tweed Creek Valley. The historic district encompasses our farm and ten other historic homes and commemorates the enterprises of the Scots-Irish Dickey family in the early 1800s.
The borough of Hopewell included cotton mills, a grist mill, post office and general store, a Presbyterian parsonage, a lyceum, and a boy's academy, all of which are now private homes. A narrow gauge railroad, locally known as "The Peachy", ran through the valley connecting Oxford to Peach Bottom. A pleasant stroll of about a mile will take you down the valley and through this historic area.
