Introduction
Nestled amidst trees and surrounded by cornfields stands a Circa 1834 homestead known as The Country Farmhouse Bed & Breakfast. Originally built as a log cabin in 1739 by Thomas Wilkins, this former cabin became an Indian trading post for the Conoy Indians who lived along the Susquehanna River just two miles away. The innkeepers have lovingly restored the home, securing its place in history for future generations.
Although only twenty minutes from Lancaster, Hershey, Harrisburg and York, we are far from the hustle and bustle of the tourist area, yet close enough to enjoy the sights. Retreating to the peacefulness and serenity of the farmland at day's end provides guests with time to relax, refresh and renew the spirit.
Our comfortable rooms have queen beds, private baths, remote cable TV, A/C and ceiling fans, plus wonderful views of the rural countryside. The former summer kitchen has been restored into a cozy private guest cottage retreat. Guests are pampered with those extra touches such a fresh flowers, embroidered pillow cases like Grandma used to make, and homemade soap.
Breakfast by candlelight starts your day with the smell of fresh-brewed coffee and herbal teas. The chef's pleasure of gourmet delights may include fruit-filled French toast, croissants, heart-shaped muffins, scones, fresh fruit and Pennsylvania Dutch sticky buns. We delight in making this meal one of your day's highlights.
Sit by the fire in the Victorian parlor, read in the Library, relax in the hammock or porch swing, or go walking along a meandering stream or through our cottage garden. Bask in the glow of the lovely sunsets beyond the farm silos nearby.
The innkeepers of Country Farmhouse Bed & Breakfast enjoy sharing their fabulous collection of antiques and the history of the homestead, which was once owned by Simon Cameron, Secretary of War for Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War. Although guests may feel as though they've stepped back in time, modern amenities abound.
