Introduction
Come step back in time and experience
Gettysburg from one of her oldest homes... The Brafferton Inn
The Inn, built in 1786, was the first house constructed in historic district
of Gettysburg and is listed on the National Register of Historic
Places.
A stay at the Brafferton Inn may be the most pleasant way to get a full sense of
Gettysburg's historical richness.
The Brafferton Inn is located one half block east of Lincoln
Square and the Wills House where President Lincoln
finished the Gettysburg address. Near antique shops, bookstores,
galleries, local artisans' workshops and restaurants,
the Inn is within walking distance of battlefield (Culp's Hill).
"A true touch of the antebellum living style." Baraboo,
WI.
The Inn has been featured in Country Living and
Early American Life magazines. It is highly recommended in over 45
Bed and Breakfast books.
This 14 room stone house faces a mid-19th century street and has an adjacent
seven room pre-Civil War clapboard addition. On the first day of the battle a
bullet shattered an upstairs window and lodged in the mantel. It is still there
today. During the war, services were held here while the church was being used
as a hospital. Just down the street is the house where Lincoln completed his
Gettysburg Address.
On the original fireplace mantle in the living room (above left) is a McCabe clock which has been in the family for nearly two centuries. The room has comfortable wingbacks and couches and an inviting collection of classical music. The room used to be two separate rooms.
You may view the dining room from the living room doorway. The arched door leads into the kitchen and the paneled doors invite you to enjoy our Atrium. Your meals will be served on Spode china, and Winterthur silverplates.
"The spirit of an earlier time with all of its hospitality and romance!"
Pittsburgh, PA
The Inn features 17 guestrooms, all with private baths. A local potter made
the basins for the washstands that have been converted into sinks. All the
rooms are furnished with 18th and 19th century family antiques and are graced
with such features as high ceilings, elaborate stencils and breathtaking historical paintings by nationally known artists Keith Rocco and Bradley Schmehl.
The brick atrium and wooded deck next to the garden provide a place to plan
your day or to relax after time at the nearby battlefield, galleries, museums
and restaurants.
"Thanks for a wonderful spot on a long journey. Like home only better -
you cooked!" Kennebunkport, ME
