The house was built in 1896 by Henry B. Gish and his wife Amanda. It was a "gentleman’s farm" built in the Victorian style and in the early part of the 20th Century underwent a small addition to the rear and some mission-style changes. Edward H. Gish, the grandson of Amanda and Henry B. Gish, lived in the house as a child and reported that it was a wedding gift to his father. Tax records show the land was in the Gish family from 1864 until 1942.
The Innkeepers:
Since purchasing the house in 1990, Ann and Dave Royer have worked on the exterior and interior in an effort to restore it’s original splendor. Ann & Dave are long-time residents of Lancaster County and would love to give sightseeing suggestions. They will also secure your reservations at local restaurants. Dave is a golfer and can direct you to the many local golf courses. Ann loves antiques and gardens and can recommend some great places to visit.
A Weekend at the Amanda Gish House: Wake up to the aroma of fresh-ground coffee and homemade baked goods. Your deluxe continental breakfast is served in the elegant dining room, on the beautiful wrap-around porch, or in the privacy of your own room.
Enjoy afternoon tea on the front porch as you smell the chocolate wafting through the air from the M&M Mars factory. And, after a long day of antiquing or sightseeing, enjoy a nightcap at bedtime before you climb under the luxury linens, on feather beds, in an individually controlled, air-conditioned bedroom.
Curl up on the swing on the front porch with a good book. Ride the country roads with one of the bikes, or stroll through the quaint town.
