Crystalwood Lodge - Klamath Falls, Oregon

Surrounded By Breathtaking Scenery The Crystalwood Lodge is located an easy 18 mile drive from the southern entrance to Crater Lake National Park. Beyond a visit to Crater Lake, the Lodge property and surrounding area provide many inexpensive and nature-filled opportunities for exploring Southern Oregon. A variety of quiet and scenic hiking and walking trails exist on the Crystalwood property and a few miles down Westside Road. Crystal Creek, which runs adjacent to the Crystalwood Lodge, is great for canoeing and kayaking. Some guests choose to bring their kayaks and canoes, but the Lodge also rents them for $20 per day.

Birding Extraordinaire

Crystalwood Lodge Bed and Breakfast sits directly on the Pacific Flyway near Crater Lake and the Upper Klamath National Wildlife Refuge, thus affording our guests a "bird's-eye" view of both spring and fall migrations, wintering and nesting Bald and Golden Eagles, as well as the numerous species which call the Klamath Basin home year-round. Because of our unique combination of mountains, meadows, woods and wetlands, the diversity of bird species is stunning, perfect for serious life list birders as well as easily accessible for the casual bird watching enthusiast. Crystalwood Lodge is a featured premier birding site on TWO separate birding trails: The Klamath Basin Birding Trail and the Oregon Cascades Birding Trail. Birders have identified hundreds of species, including the elusive Yellow Rails and a quite uncommon Least Flycatcher, seldom seen in Oregon. Come and see what all the excitement is about!

Briar's Patch Sled Dogs...Iditarod Finishers!

Liz's sled dog team, Briar's Patch Sled Dogs, has successfully finished Iditarod 2008, to celebrate Liz's 50th birthday! The team finished the race with 14 dogs (of the starting team of 16) in 14 days' time. The dogs were magnificent, getting stronger and stronger as the race went on...they know they did something quite special! It was an honor and a privilege to be able to share the trail with them, and to have them take me -- emotionally, spiritually and physically -- places I could never go otherwise. Now I'm ready to share those experiences with others. For more information, you can contact Liz at 541-892-3639. Please plan on visiting the team during your stay here at the Lodge and congratulating them on a job well done!

Announcing a major change in our food service offerings for the 2009 season. We are extending our off-season practice of offering guests full and complete use of our commercial kitchen facility in lieu of providing served meals. This will be our default offering throughout the entire 2009 season. Use of the kitchen facilities is included and there are no additional charges. Our Klamath Falls lodging is about Value!

Many of you have spoken highly of the casualness and utter relaxation of being on your own schedule, not having to show up for a meal at an appointed time. After all, it's your vacation so if you decide to change your mind at the last minute, getting out early or sleeping in…go right ahead! We also felt in these economic times this was the prudent thing to do, in order to help your hard-earned vacation dollars stretch further. Making this change has enabled us to significantly lower our costs and pass those savings on to you in the form of rates which are discounted an average of over 25% from 2008 rates. Lastly, for those of you who have drooled over our kitchen facility, and pictured yourself enjoying it - let your creativity flow and your secret "inner gourmand" emerge!

We are fully outfitted: walk-in cooler, propane grill, freezer and dry food storage, dishes, flatware, service ware, glassware - in short, everything you might need to prepare anything from simple comfort food to a gourmet extravaganza. A 6 burner propane stove, 2 ovens, prep tables, commercial dish washing sink and sterilizer, pots, pans, cooking utensils, microwaves. All you supply is the food, and there's plenty of dry, freezer and refrigerated storage for whatever you might bring to our Upper Klamath Lake lodging.

Crystalwood is blessed with mountains and marsh, so the wildlife is varied and extensive. We have a resident herd of Roosevelt elk, now numbering almost 100 animals. Visitors in July get to see the calves right behind the lodge. Otters, deer, marmots, bobcats, porcupines, and waterfowl by the tens of thousands are common. Bears are occasional autumn visitors, as are mountain lions and badgers. Sandhill cranes nest on the ranch, as do Bald eagles, herons, myriad species of woodpecker, owls, and raptors.

Trophy-sized trout and steelhead abound in nearby lakes and rivers including the Wood, Rogue, North Umpqua and Williamson rivers, Upper Klamath and Agency Lakes, and our own Crystal Spring and Crystal Creek. Fly-fishing guide services can be booked through Crystalwood Lodge (email reservervations@crystalwoodlodge.com) and feature the expertise of the skilled professionals of Roe Outfitters. We can also book with other local guides by request.

World-class fly-fishing, endless miles of skiing, hiking and snowmobiling, championship golf, thousands of birds and hundreds of species of wildlife reside at our doorstep. You and your best friend can enjoy all of it...plan a few days to find out all the area has to offer.
