Introduction
Enjoy the romantic charm and quiet elegance of our lovingly restored Queen Anne Victorian, The Secret Garden Bed & Breakfast Inn.
Located at the head of the St. Lawrence River on Lake Ontario, Kingston is one of the oldest European settlements in North America. Before the Europeans discovered the strategic location of this area, Cataraqui, as the Iroquois called the area -- the place where the land and the rocks rise out of the waters at the end of the lake -- was well known to native North Americans.
The history of Kingston centres around its strategic location at the end of Lake Ontario and the beginning of the St. Lawrence River and Rideau Canal.
The Secret Garden is a historically designed treasure built in 1888 by John McKay, a fur and leather merchant for his family. Antique fireplaces, beautiful stained glass windows and interesting architectural details are reminiscent of a quieter, more genteel era.
