Upside Down Apple Walnut Pie
As featured in Country Living Magazine
Preheat Convection Oven to 350 degrees-bake 20 min. then 300 degrees for 30 min.
Preheat Regular Oven to 400 degrees-bake 20 min. then 350 degrees for 30 min.
Spray pie pan with non-stick spray
Total Cooking Time 50 minutes
Step One:
4 cups Apples-peeled and cored
4 TBSP. Butter
1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
1 tsp. Corn Syrup
1/3 Chopped Walnuts
1) Prepare pastry shell- Crimp edges
2) Cut apples into 3/4 cubes
3) Melt butter and add brown sugar and corn syrup-heat to combine- do not boil!
4) Spread mixture in the bottom of the pie pan
5) Sprinkle walnuts over the butter sugar mixture
6) Line the prepared pan with one pie pastry shell. Be careful not to make holes in the dough from the nuts. Trim even with edge of pan.
7) Fill pan with the cubed apples.
Step Two:
1 1/8 Cup Sugar
3 TBSP. Clear Gel
3/4 tsp. Cinnamon
1/8 tsp. Ground Nutmeg
1/4 tsp. Salt
2 TBSP. Margarine
8) Combine sugar, clear gel, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt; blend thoroughly; sprinkle evenly over apples.
9) Place top crust on pie and trim even with edge of pan
10) Prick top with tines of fork. Seal crust edges and roll edges toward the center of pie. There should be no crust touching the rim of pan.
11) Bake 20 minutes at 350 degrees and then 30 minutes at 300 degrees
Step Three:
Immediately turn out on a plate and let set for a few seconds. Then remove pie pan.
