Introduction
Welcome to Hallauer House
Driving up to the white house on the hill, one can only wonder what history this house holds. Did it offer refuge to escaping slaves on their journey to freedom? The dry cistern and the hidden opening in the cellar suggest it may have. This house with eyes to the past stands on the diagonal road that connects Elyria to Wellington as it bypasses Oberlin city.
Your journey back in time begins with the clang-clang of the 1860 doorbell as you turn the crank in a clockwise direction. The massive door squeaks open to allow you inside. Immediately you begin to feel the presence of the past as it meets the promise of tomorrow.
Rest comfortably in one of our three, large, well-appointed bedrooms, each with a private bath and satellite TV. Enjoy a full breakfast in our formal dining room or at poolside during the warm season. Relax in the music room in front of the fire, where you will find a digital baby grand piano, a turn-of-the-century player organ, an extensive collection of civil war memorabilia, and many board games, card games and antique books. From May through September, swim and sun in the heated in-ground swimming pool and relax on the mini beaches!

Meet The Innkeepers
As a retired gifted education teacher and history buff, my husband Joe is a knowledgeable tour guide around our century home and the historical city of Oberlin. He is always ready to answer any questions on any subject, but he specializes in the Civil War era and the Underground Railroad. The many Civil War artifacts help him tell the stories about life during those difficult times. Model railroading is his retirement hobby so be sure to take a walk around his Kipton NicklePlate Railroad Garden layout.
My wife, Susan, is a soon-to-be-retired Family and Consumer science teacher so she knows the kitchen, knows food, and serves up a delicious full course breakfast to help you start your day. Over the years she has designed and constructed the many garden rooms throughout the property and would be more than happy to give you a personalized garden tour and talk plants and landscaping, food, and swimming pools.
