History
The Garden Gate Get-A-Way opened for business in 1996. It is the handiwork of Roger & Laverta Steiner, who decided to add more living space to their home including overnight rooms in the plans. They started the project by dismantling a one-room schoolhouse and using the elements to add character to the new addition. The bell tower from the school rests on the south peak of the roof with the foundation stones being used for retaining walls and flowerbeds. Lumber, oak flooring, tongue 'n groove ceiling, wainscoting, and chalkboard saved from the school were used in the Steiner's personal part of the building. Laverta's love of flowers and birdhouses made it easy for her to come up with the theme of the rooms, all different but with a garden theme.
Herb & Carol Steffey are the second owners of the business. They always dreamed of leaving the hectic, corporate life and owning a business. The beautiful perennial gardens and the fire ring fit right in with their love of the outdoors. They are eager to expand on the scenic, country setting started by the Steiner's and greet their new guests.
