Introduction
Whether entering through the cast iron fence to the front door or by way of the trellised back courtyard, guests cannot help but be enveloped by the special warmth of this 1845 home built by one of Kenyon College’s master carpenters.
Ideally located opposite Kenyon
College and only five miles from Mount Vernon, The Gambier House has been lovingly restored and decorated. It features a formal parlor, family room, fireplaces, antiques, hidden staircases as well as five bedrooms and an attached suite. Enjoy the tranquility of the weeping cherry courtyard or watch the world go by on a front porch rocker.
The gracefully elegant mixture of Victorian and Country charm is an invitation to relax, take a deep breath and enjoy all that surrounds you.
Attention to detail is the first thought most have upon entering the Dining Room. With its wood paneling and rich wallpaper, the Dining Room is an elegant setting for each delicious gourmet breakfast prepared by proprietor E.J. Heer. Guests can expect to enjoy such dishes as French toast, whole-wheat pancakes, herbed scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, muffins, coffee cakes and sweet rolls, made with local, mostly organic, produce (in season).
Accommodations in the five bedrooms of the main house vary from double to queen size beds and two of the rooms have additional beds to sleep up to four people. The two-floor Carriage House suite, attached to the main house by way of an enclosed breezeway, can sleep up to five people and features a small kitchenette and sitting room
with TV/VCR. The Gambier House has WiFi and all rooms have private baths. Rates begin at $110 plus tax, depending on the room. Each additional guest above double occupancy is $25 plus tax per person per night. The Gambier House is a non-smoking bed and breakfast. All major credit cards accepted.
The area features a number of golf courses, the Kokosing Gap Trail, antiquing, canoeing, and is a gateway to Amish Country and many other distractions..
