Clara's Country Cottage

Clara's Country Cottage is nestled on the edge of the rolling hills of our working farm in the scenic Crooked Run Valley. These are the same hills that our Swiss Great Grandmother Clara saw the sun peeking over each morning when she went out to the chicken house to gather the hens' gifts. (We still do, but not quite so early!) We've named the cottage after her and her determination and spirit as a hard-working farmwoman of the 20th century.

Breakfast is continental - fresh fruits, yogurt, crunchy granola, milk and juice - and perhaps some fresh baked goods, too, and Clara's Homemade Grape Jelly, fresh from our vines. If a traditional, hearty Amish breakfast is more your style, nearby restaurants are sure to please. Note that many local establishments are closed on Sundays. Complimentary Snacks include tasty teas, coffees, and hot cocoa, popcorn, and whatever other special goodies Clara's whims provide!

Many accommodations charge DOUBLE during this season, but we think a little differently! Sit quietly outside your back door - dawn and early evening, see how close the deer come as they wander out of the cornfields to graze. But don't be surprised if our friendly farm dogs, Bailey and Sarge, wander by to greet you as well! There are no distractions of television or Internet here (even though one of Great Grandma Clara's favorite pastimes was listening in on the neighborhood party line!), but cell phones work fine. Should you require access to the Web, several "wired" coffee shops are just a few minutes away, and they will be delighted to welcome you with an array of delicious foods and beverages during your visit, plus free Wi-Fi.

The larger bedroom, Adelle's Room, has a comfy, canopied queen size bed with extra cushioning and luxurious 400 thread count sheets. Decor is French Country, including the charming writing desk. The smaller bedroom, Raechel's Room, has a quaint daybed with vintage coverlet, and evokes memories of long ago childhood with a display of whimsical playthings of yesteryear. There's even a small chest of yes-you-can-touch toys with which our youngest guests can amuse themselves, although the room is also well suited for one adult. A private entrance also offers a spectacular view of rolling hills and wandering wildlife.

• Friday - Saturday: $115 per night
• Week long rentals available at Clara's - Sunday through Saturday, only $615 -affordable couple or family vacation.
• Check-in is 3 - 6 pm, unless other arrangements are made. Checkout is at 11 AM.
• All rates are for 1-3 adults.
• Children are welcomed, and up to four (under 18) are included at no extra charge.
  • We currently have sleeping spaces for three people.
  • Children are welcome to bed down on our carpeted floors in their own sleeping bags, too.
• Sorry, no pets.
• One night's rental deposit is required to reserve the cottage.
• Cancellation fee is $25 up to 10 days before reservation date.
  • 4-9 days, $100 cancellation fee.
  • No refunds for cancellations within 3 or fewer days of reservation date.

• Payment: At this time, we take payment through Paypal on our website, or by check or money order that we receive at least two weeks prior to your reserved date.
