Introduction

The Blackfork Inn - Loudonville, Ohio Welcome to Loudonville, a sweet little town nestled into the famously beautiful hills of Mohican state Park, a region that writer Louis Bromfield called, "...the edge of paradise." Stay awhile - hiking, biking, canoeing, sightseeing - and we think you will agree that Bromfield was right.

Blackfork Inn is a two-building, year-round bed & breakfast located near Amish Country and Mohican and Malabar Farm State Parks. For twenty years, we've been helping guests plan their special vacations -- whether it's a romantic weekend for two, or a family reunion for twenty. We can put together packages that suit your fancy, including golf and ski packages and private tours of Amish farms, with dinner in an Amish home. We also offer gift certificates and occasional specials, available to people on our e-mailing list.

If you like the nostalgic sound of train whistles in the night, you'll love the Blackfork Inn. We're in the heart of Loudonville's one-time railroad district, where the station, the stockyard and the feed mills used to be. Both of our buildings were built by railroad men, and there are other relics of the railroad era. The opera house is just down the street, where big-name stars once played, in the days when theater troupes used trains, not buses, to take their shows on the road. It's called the Ohio Theater now, and you can take in a movie there every night of the week.

Loudonville's rail traffic has dwindled in recent years to two or three a night, but guests tell us they enjoy the soothing clickety-clack of the trains rumbling through. For those who don't, earplugs are provided on the bedside tables.

History buffs love our local museum, which traces the town's past, from Indian times to the present, and the library, which is a Genealogist's dream. Visitors take comfort in our pretty Main Street, where the shops are locally owned and the red-brick Victorian storefronts look much as they did a century ago.

Visitors can learn about the area's natural history at Mohican State Park where park rangers put on weekend lectures and nature walks. Visitors can also thrill to the exploits of Ohio's favorite folk hero at the Johnny Appleseed Outdoor Drama, June to September.

From sunrise to sunset there is always something beautiful to see at The Blackfork Inn. In The Brick House (1865), massive woodwork, ornate furniture and silk and linen wall coverings provide a feast for the eyes. In The Annex (1847), the theme is country Victorian, and the Christmas tree is up all year, used as a drying rack for the fragrant herbs from the innkeeper's gardens. Both buildings are filled with a lifetime collection of books and antiques. And all our guest rooms have private baths.
