Dean's Village Inn Coffeecake

Nut Mixture:

6 tablespoons butter
1 cup brown sugar
 2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 cup chopped nuts

Cream the butter, brown sugar and cinnamon well; add nuts.

Batter:

1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 eggs
 2 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 pint (1 cup) sour cream

  1. Preheat oven to 350°. Grease and flour 10-inch tube pan or Bundt pan.

  2. Cream the shortening, sugar and vanilla thoroughly.

  3. Add the eggs and beat well.

  4. Sift flour, baking powder and baking soda together; add this and the sour cream to creamed mixture, blending well after each addition.

  5. Spread half of the batter in the prepared pan. Over this sprinkle half of the nut mixture. Cover with remaining batter; sprinkle on second half of nut mixture.

  6. Bake at 350° for 40-45 minutes.
