Introduction
The Sheeley House Bed & Breakfast cannot be defined by any one style or period. Although it is a blend of several styles and tastes, it does still capture much of the dignity and interest of Mr. Newcomb's time. While this house is indeed stately and elegant, we hope our guests will find it comfortable and welcoming as well.
Once home to our six lively children in the 1970s and 80s, this wonderful brick house was originally home to Isaac Hasbrouck in the 1830s until his death in 1852. The house was then owned and occupied by relatives until it was sold in 1882 to an attorney, Mr. Alvah Newcomb. It is reported that Mr. Newcomb made extensive renovations to the "old brick house" including a very large and beautiful addition, predicting, "when all work thereon is completed, it will be one of the finest residences in this village." (May 3rd 1883 The Kingston Journal and Weekly Freeman) If you find this interesting, you can learn more during your stay with us.
Now, with a lot more to tell about and well over a century later, the Sheeleys have made extensive renovations to the "old brick house", and we believe that our guests will consider it a fine place to stay!
Relax alone or with friends and review the day's events while enjoying a refreshing beverage. If music is your forte, we invite you to express your talent on our grand piano, or on your own instrument. And for those that just can't get "away from the office", we can provide time and space for your business needs.
Breakfast is served in one of two dining rooms complete with fresh-baked goods. Reading materials of local and general interest are in our quiet sitting room any time of day. Our side porch and open yard is a pleasant respite for a breath of fresh air and our property offers opportunity for that midday walk or evening stroll.
Come and enjoy the placid atmosphere of the bright and spacious Sheeley House when you escape for a weekend, your next business trip, or any other occasion that brings you to the scenic Hudson Valley.
We think our house is most beautiful when people are here to enjoy it.
