Introduction
Welcome to our Brooklyn Bed and Breakfast! A homey, affordable alternative to a Manhattan or Brooklyn Hotel. A Brooklyn Bed and Breakfast with country charm. We have tastefully furnished rooms in our Historic Brooklyn Bed and Breakfast. We personally serve a sumptuous breakfast every morning and hold your hand before you head out to enjoy the wonders of New York City! Let us pamper you in our Brooklyn home while you visit Brooklyn and Manhattan and all of New York City.
Come Stay in one of our beautiful sun-drenched rooms in our 1898 Brooklyn townhouse! Our Bed & Breakfast is on a quiet, tree-lined block in Lefferts Manor, a one-family chartered section of the New York City Landmark area known as Prospect Lefferts Gardens Historic District.
Please feel free to browse and borrow from our expansive library or play a board game, or just relax and read after breakfast or in the evening. A computer with internet access is available for a modest fee.
We serve breakfast from 9 - 10 am every morning but guests sometimes stay and linger much longer in delightful bliss. Have another coffee or fine tea and let us help you plan your day! Fresh coffee, fine teas, orange juice (not from concentrate) and a tower full of sliced fruit are just standard every morning. Usually accompanied by a variety of cereals, yogurt, dried fruit, granola, fresh baked biscuits and muffins, sometimes hard-boiled eggs or omelets or even our famous oatmeal. Every Saturday Moni cooks her famous pancakes fresh on the griddle for all the guests! Always served with fresh banana slices and seasonal berries and plenty of syrup and jams and other spreads. On Sundays she serves fresh-baked muffins chock-full of nuts, fruit and goodies!
All of our rooms are tastefully furnished with a slight nod to the Victorian period and tribute to a broader range of other styles and periods. Rustic Moroccan lanterns and tile tables, a shaker style bed, colonial chairs and end table all blend together with a minimalist's love for open space and air. All the rooms in the house share an element of serene naturalism and quiet warmth. Cozy, yet not cluttered. Cool to the eye, but rich with woods and earthy textures, giving softness to the rooms. We have borrowed from our interests in Eastern philosophies of design to give you the feeling of Victorian comfort without losing the clarity and openness of the rooms, which the Zen philosophers believe brings peace of mind.
All of our rooms feature original 1898 detailing. Original doors, baseboards and window sashes, fireplaces (sealed) and mantles, quarter-sawn oak parquet flooring, picture rails, original plaster work including original gaslight medallions. Two of the bedrooms still have the original antique intercom boxes with which the first owners would call their servants!
Each floor has a restored 1920's bathroom, installed when the first owners chose to "modernize" the home with the new miracle of indoor plumbing and electric which was being installed for the first time across New York City starting around 1915. These antique bathrooms feature breathtaking wraparound subway tiles, an original toilet, built-in shower enclosures with original glass doors from the Brooklyn Shower Door Company and a claw-foot tub on the top floor. The guest rooms on each floor of our townhouse share a bathroom. The Fitzgerald and The McManus rooms are on the floor above The Parlor and share one large bathroom. The Bradley, O'Neal and The Osborne rooms are on the top floor and they share an even larger bathroom with an antique claw-foot tub in addition to the shower enclosure.
Rooms are all equipped with end-tables and reading lights, closets, air-conditioning and Wireless Internet access. We provide fresh linens and towels and we serve a sumptuous breakfast every morning in The Parlor. Our Parlor is open to all guests from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. for quiet enjoyment and features ten-foot ceilings, two seven-foot windows and original Maple millwork and trim. An original Arts & Crafts chandelier shines in the front foyer lighting up the enormous built-in beveled mirror framed in decorative Maple.
Originally the master bedroom, this is our largest room. A grand, sun-filled wall of light runs across the full width of the townhouse with three full-sized, restored original windows looking out onto the trees of Rutland Road. A beautiful carved pine California king-sized bed, a mantle and sealed fireplace, restored parquet flooring and a walk-in closet are just some of the rich details. A Moroccan lantern and tile table add an ethnic touch the Victorian wood and plaster detailing. Just one flight up, this room can be joined with The McManus room as a two-bedroom suite.
