As an extension of his work in finance and planning, Warren advises individuals and organizations through a private consulting practice he established. For businesses and organizations he deals with issues such as operational efficiency, marketing research, strategic planning, knowledge management, and business and client development. He works with individuals on communication, productivity, time management and organization, leadership, and executive success. Warren also serves on the faculty at New York University as an adjunct professor in the areas of investments and financial planning. On occasion, when allowed, Warren works with his wife Lia on the operations, business strategies, and quality of the 1871 House. Lia Raum grew up in New York City and graduated from Barnard College. In addressing Barnard's language study requirement, Lia studied French, Italian and Spanish. Upon graduation, Lia traveled to Italy, France, England and Spain. Other countries visited include Mexico, Israel, Canada, and Greece. These travel experiences have given Lia extensive exposure to the hospitality industry and its unique requirements. Li has also completed graduate courses at New York University's Real Estate Institute and earned a graduate degree in Real Estate Investment Analysis. While attending NYU, Lia also did the required coursework for and obtained her Real Estate Brokers license. Having lived most her life in New York City, Lia has had the opportunity to reside in many of New York's different residential neighborhoods (Upper West Side, Upper East Side, Lower East Side). Similar to the way Lia's traveling experiences have helped prepare her to manage the 1871 House, her exposure to many of New York City's neighborhoods allows her to give helpful advice and recommendations to her guests. Lia spends the majority of her time overseeing the affairs and administration of the 1871 House. Extra-curricular interests include gardening and interior design. To that end Lia has done all the gardening (consisting of terrace and patio potting gardens) and the interior design of the individual rooms at the 1871House. Due to the time commitment involved with the 1871 House, Lia and Warren don't do much traveling; however enjoy spending time going to the beach on extended weekends and occasionally going on long weekend excursions just outside the city.
