Area Information

The Village of Corrales is home to woodworkers, artists, sculptors, clothing designers, jewelers, musicians, writers and dozens of other artists. There are several very fine restaurants in Corrales, or nearby.

The Cultural Arts Council and the Corrales Historic Society provide concerts, dramatic performances, lectures, and showings at the community center located at the former San Ysidro Church on Old Church Road. There are fiestas and harvest celebrations, wine tasting events, and traditional Hispanic and Native American dances and religious observances throughout the year. Two of Corrales' most historic buildings are available for viewing. Casa San Ysidro Museum is a 1650's estate that is now operated by the Albuqerque Museum. The Old San Ysidro Church (1850's) is also a Southwest treasure not to be missed.

Day trips to the Indian Pueblos, Santa Fe, Taos, the Bosque del Apache Bird Sanctuary at Socorro and several national monuments and forests, are an easy drive. The Kodak Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta takes place just across the river; the Arabian Horse Show is held at the Fair Grounds in Albuquerque. Premier ski resorts and a number of championship golf courses are close by. Some of the finest restaurants in New Mexico are a short drive.

If you are into outdoor activities, nearby there is horseback riding, hiking, river rafting, golfing, fishing, bird watching, world class shopping, museums, and galleries.

And if shopping is your pleasure, there are many merchants within a short drive of Nora Dixon Place, including Cottonwood Mall and, of course, Rio Rancho, which borders Corrales to the west. Intel, the largest manufacturer in the State of New Mexico, is "just up the hill" overlooking the Village to the east.

Then, of course, there is always the Kodak Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. This huge event draws over 100,000 visitors and 1000+ balloons to the area every October. And you can see it all from the patio and porticos of Nora Dixon Place . . . well, if you're gotten your reservations in early.

There's something for every taste. The tough part is choosing!
