The romantic legend behind this traditional old Santa Fe inn makes it a perfect honeymoon B&B -- though our hand-crafted adobe walls, friendly atmosphere and garden courtyard beckon one and all to enjoy their New Mexico vacation. According to legend, Antonio Abelard Rodriguez built the hacienda in 1910 for his bride, the exquisite Dona Isabella. They had been married less than a year when Isabella and her entourage, while riding in the mountains, were attacked by marauding banditos. When she did not return, Antonio searched frantically for his beloved. When he found her, Isabella was at death's door but Antonio nursed her back to health. However, the experience so scarred Isabella that she was terrified to venture outside their home. As a testament to his love, Antonio built the hacienda so Isabella might find refuge behind its thick adobe walls and peace in the enclosed garden. Here she and Antonio shared their perfect love for decades to follow.

The inn is named after owner Carolyn Lee's son, Nicholas. The nearby Madeleine is named after his twin sister, and Alexander's Inn up the street is named after their older brother. In naming these Santa Fe bed & breakfasts after her children, Carolyn brought together her two passions in life. The family connection carries over into the feel of all three inns.
