Introduction
Windward House is a gracious Edwardian seaside inn with a tradition of hospitality and comfort. This restored inn is located in the heart of the Historic District of Jackson Street, the oldest street in Cape May.
To capture the summer sun and shade, this comfortable inn has three porches - a wraparound front porch filled with wicker, a second floor porch which is private to two special guest rooms and a third floor sundeck.
About Cape May...
Cape May, a national historic landmark, is truly a year-round resort, offering a wide variety of attractions throughout the year - beaches, shops, fine restaurants, boating, fishing, bicycling - also, historic tours and special events.
Christmas in Cape May is a special time of houses trimmed with holiday finery and gaily fit twinkling lights. Consider a visit to this historic town and to Windward House during this delightful holiday season, and spend a cozy afternoon by the parlor fireplace.
Windward House is an American shingle style cottage - a style that was developed primarily as a vacation home in the 1880s. The house has lots of windows and porches, and the rooms are spacious and airy. Its unbeatable location, in the prime historic district, is one half block to beaches and shopping areas and close to many restaurants and tour sites.
Today, besides operating as a bed and breakfast inn, Windward House has been included in a variety of historic house tours, sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts, the Vintage Homes Association, Elder Hostel, Alternative Tours, and the well-known Christmas Inns of Cape May Grand Tour.
This last tour has had national recognition for more than a decade and has been featured in magazines such as Mid Atlantic Country, Insider, Country Inns Bed and Breakfast, and Main Line Magazine. It has also had both State and National TV coverage.
Association of Historic Inns calls us "The loveliest and most authentically decorated of all the houses we visited."
Windward House contains one of Cape May's finest collections of stained and beveled glass - visible as soon as you cross the threshold.
Marvelous doors and paneling of oak and chestnut are complemented by rooms filled with museum quality antiques and the owners' special displays.
Sandy's china and glass displays and Owen's bisque bathing beauties are just some of many collections seen throughout the house.
Enjoy wintertime coziness by the fire or summer sun and shade porches...
Recapture the romance and gentleness of a bygone era.
This gracious Edwardian seaside inn has a tradition of hospitality and comfort. All guest rooms have antique queen or king size bed sets replicating the comfort and luxury the Victorians loved in their bedrooms.
Through the years, Windward House has always entertained family and friends. We want you, our guests, to feel as comfortable and relaxed as you would in your own home. We strive to ensure your privacy just as we do our own.
The absolutely best thing about Windward House is the many wonderful people who have stayed with us.
We hope we can count on you to be some of them.
