Introduction
The John F. Craig House Bed & Breakfast is located on the beautiful Columbia Avenue in the middle of the Historic District. The original section built in 1850 and a Carpenter Gothic Victorian expansion in 1866, provide the true Victorian era experience. But, there is a twist: Chip and Barbara feel that "everyone should be just plain silly sometimes" and it shows at the Inn. Expect to see collections of bawdy ladies, pre-war Lionel trains, toys, Majolica and other surprises.
The Inn offers open porches for warmer months, glassed-in porches and the warm glow of a parlor fireplace in the cooler seasons. The modern comforts today's traveler expects are included.
We are one block to the beach, as well as to the historic shopping mall and fine dining restaurants. Chip says they are all within "a seven iron" - challenge him.
Accommodations and Rates
All rooms are decorated in a light Victorian style with the lace curtains, old-fashioned wallpapers and beautiful antique furnishings as you would expect. What you may not expect is the whimsy and fun from Barbara and Chip's collections.
Each room has a private bath, individually controlled air conditioning and heat, cable TV with VCR, coffee makers, refrigerators, hair dryers and irons. Some have fireplaces.
Third floor rooms (7) Martha Edna, and (8) the Dudley Wagner Suite, located in the dormers are more casual reflecting the fifty years the Craig family enjoyed this "summer cottage". They combine for the perfect accommodation for four people traveling together. Both of these rooms can accommodate a third person.
Rates: $145 - $285 per night
Breakfast is one of the best times at the inn. Guests accuse us of using the fragrances of early morning as their wake up call, but there is never a rush. We serve a buffet breakfast between 8:30 and 10 a.m. You can either join other guests in the dining room or take a tray to the porch.
